World Environment Day 2017

June 5, 2017 is World Environment Day!

This year's theme is all about connecting people to nature. That means encouraging people to get outdoors and appreciate the beauty of the planet in a bid to show people the importance of protecting it for future generations.

What can we do to get connected with nature? Last year, AGREA gathered local volunteers and planted numerous indigenous species of trees.

100 mulberry trees were planted by 16 local volunteers at the AGREA Model Farm.

400 native talisay seedlings were also planted by student leaders, community-based youth, and other volunteers from local agencies.

This year, AGREA encourages people to visit local farms and gardens, and not just look at them but get involved with them. Learn new ways of natural farming - like how to make your own organic fertilizers, how to enhance the soil and make it healthier, or how to make a vertical garden. The possibilities are endless!

Plant a tree. When you do, make sure you are planting indigenous species and commit yourself to taking care of them. If you have planted a tree last year (or maybe days ago), visit them today, too, and see how they are.

Find out local environment events wherever you may be. AGREA will be launching a greening movement soon, so watch out for that too.
