Cherrie Atilano heads MIMAROPA Regional Farm Tourism Association

AGREA’s Founding Farmer, President and CEO Cherrie Atilano is the newest president of the MIMAROPA (Region 4-B) Regional Farm Tourism Association.

"Farm tourism is rising. It is about time," said Cherrie Atilano in a statement.

"Local, domestic, and international travellers are giving farm tourism a second look because it is a sustainable way to produce food and it re-establishes our connection with nature. Visit MIMAROPA where the heartlands of farm tourism is growing and flourishing," she adds.

In a Facebook post, Cherrie Atilano said “Here we go towards sustainable farm tourism in the most beautiful island destinations: Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan (MIMAROPA)!!!!

Sustainable Farm Tourism is the new normal way of tourism. Being out there in the sun, eat healthy, connect with the food producers and more educational stuff. I cannot wait to help boost the farm tourism and help more farmers in these island destinations. The fun is just about to happen,” Atilano adds.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat describes farm tourism as “a catalyst for sustainable tourism and inclusive development.”

“Farm tourism holds the promise of food sufficiency and additional income for our tourism stakeholders, including farmers, farmworkers and fisherfolk,” Puyat says in a statement. “After all, gainful employment, enhanced productivity and sustainable livelihoods are what tourism is really all about,” she adds.
